Masonry Anchors Market Snapshot: Fall 2024 Trends & Analysis

Tapcon holds 58.3% of the masonry anchor category at Home Depot and Lowe's as of October 2024 — and all five of the top-selling SKUs. Every one is a hex-washer-head concrete anchor in a different length or pack size, priced from $23.80 to $52.20. No other brand appears in the top five. In a category with at least fifteen competing brands, one name controls the shelf.

Five SKUs, One Product Family

Tapcon's top five are variations of the same anchor: 1/4 in. hex-washer-head concrete screws in lengths from 1-1/4 in. to 3-1/4 in., sold in 10-packs, 75-packs, and 225-packs at $23.80 to $52.20. Each SKU serves a different application depth or project scale, but the product is fundamentally the same.

A homeowner mounting a TV bracket buys a 10-pack. A contractor anchoring sill plates buys the 225-pack. Tapcon captures both ends without ceding the shelf.

The Category Barely Moved

Tapcon held between 58.0% and 58.3% across all three months — August, September, and October. Red Head, the second-largest brand, sat at roughly 16.7% every month. Cobra held steady near 10%. Simpson Strong-Tie stayed at roughly 7.7%.

Nothing shifted. The four largest brands — Tapcon, Red Head, Cobra, and Simpson Strong-Tie — collectively hold over 92% of the category. The remaining dozen-plus brands split less than 8%.

Tapcon's Dominance Is Structural

In most fastener categories, brand switching happens easily — a screw is a screw. Masonry anchors are different. Tapcon anchors require a Tapcon-specific drill bit, creating a switching cost that reinforces brand loyalty. Once a contractor owns the bit, every replacement anchor purchase defaults back to Tapcon.

At 58% with zero movement, this is one of the most locked categories in building materials. Displacing Tapcon would require not just a better anchor but a reason to invest in a different drilling system.

Datavations tracks every SKU, every store, every sale across 11,936+ locations daily — the precision that confirms when a category is truly locked versus quietly shifting.

Who leads the masonry anchor category at Home Depot and Lowe's?

Tapcon leads with 58.3% dollar share as of October 2024, holding all five of the top-selling SKUs. Red Head is second at 16.7%, followed by Cobra at roughly 10%.

How competitive is the masonry anchor category?

The category is one of the most concentrated and stable in building materials. The top four brands hold over 92% of dollar share, and none moved more than a fraction of a point in Q3 2024.

Why is Tapcon so dominant in masonry anchors?

Tapcon controls all five top SKUs through length and pack-size segmentation of its core hex-washer-head concrete anchor. The brand's proprietary drill-bit system creates switching costs that reinforce repeat purchases.
