Front Doors Market Snapshot: Spring 2024 Trends & Analysis

Masonite leads the front door category at Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Menards with 33% dollar share as of April 2024 — yet holds none of the top five best-selling SKUs. Jeld-Wen and Therma-Tru split the top five between them, with Jeld-Wen holding three and Therma-Tru two. The disconnect between SKU-level bestsellers and overall brand share tells a story about catalog depth versus individual product strength.

Jeld-Wen Dominates the Value Tier

Jeld-Wen holds three of the top five SKUs, all 6-panel primed steel prehung doors at $262 to $263: a 36 in. right-hand inswing (1.4% dollar share), a 36 in. left-hand inswing (1.3%), and a 32 in. right-hand inswing (1.2%). They are essentially the same door in different configurations — left versus right hand, 32 versus 36 inches.

At $262, these are the entry-level front door — a builder or homeowner replacing a damaged door buys on price and fit. Jeld-Wen owns that decision at 26% overall share.

Therma-Tru Plays the Premium Card

Therma-Tru’s two top-five SKUs are Shaker-style fiberglass Craftsman doors at $505 — nearly double the Jeld-Wen steel doors. The left-hand version holds 1.3% dollar share and the right-hand 1.2%. Fiberglass insulating core at a $505 ASP positions Therma-Tru for energy-conscious buyers willing to pay for curb appeal and thermal performance.

Overall share sits at 14%, up from 13% in February.

Masonite Leads Without a Top-Five SKU

Masonite holds 33% of the category — more than Jeld-Wen and Therma-Tru combined — without placing a single product in the top five. That means Masonite’s strength comes from catalog breadth: dozens of SKUs each contributing small share, adding up to category leadership.

Steves & Sons rose from 7% to 9% over the quarter — the biggest mover outside the top three. The top three brands collectively control roughly 73% of the category. High ASPs, left/right hand configurations, and material choices fragment individual SKU sales while concentrating brand-level share.

Datavations tracks every SKU, every store, every sale across 11,936+ locations daily — the depth needed to see how a brand can lead a category without owning a single bestseller.

Who leads the front door category at Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Menards?

Masonite leads with 33% dollar share as of April 2024, followed by Jeld-Wen at 26% and Therma-Tru at 14%.

What is the best-selling front door?

Jeld-Wen’s 36 in. x 80 in. 6-Panel Primed Steel Prehung door at $262 leads at 1.4% dollar share. The top five are split between Jeld-Wen steel doors (~$262) and Therma-Tru fiberglass doors ($505).

Why doesn’t the market leader have a top-five SKU?

Masonite’s 33% share comes from catalog breadth — many SKUs each contributing small share — rather than concentration in a few bestsellers. Front doors fragment by size, hand, material, and style more than most categories.
